Joachim Rønneberg grew up in Ålesund. After graduation from high school, he traveled to Oslo and graduated from the Olso Handelsgymnasiun in 1939, then he went into the family fish export business until February 1941. In early 1941 Joachim decided to be a part of the freedom struggle from Great Britain. So he then traveled across the North Sea with Sigurd, who after a treacherous journey came to Lerwich in Shetland.
