Quartz Stone

Eivind Oanes, spoke with Martin Røyneberg and heard the following story.

About 1920 this quartz stone (pictured below) was found on the Røyneberg farm in Sola Norway. At that time, Martin Røyneberg and his Uncle Einar Røyneberg lived on the farm. While excavating to drain some of the land, Einar discovered a large quartz stone near the beach at Stokkavannet. When the Germans arrived in 1940 over 3000 people were forced to evacuate from the Sola area. Martin and his father, Kristian Røyneberg, took the animals, farm equipment and the quartz stone to Øksnevad, about 15 km south of Røyneberg. They moved back to farm after the war, but left the quartz stone for some unknown reason. In 1946 a farmer’s school was established at Øksnevad. In 1947 Martin, while a student at the school, related the story of the quartz stone to the headmaster. Fifty years later, in 1997, Øksnevad videregående skole celebrated their anniversity. Martin saw the quartz stone again in the school’s garden where it still sits today.
