Notes: Kapellet bak fjellet

The Chapel behind the mountain
The Chapel is built of stone as a (grave) chapel in 1879, the same year as the burial ground next to it called the North Grave yard. Until the 1930's the Chapel was in use for its original purpose – that is putting in the coffins, gatherings, speech, psalmody and readings before the burial. After that the Chapel was used by the municipality for storing tools and by the Ålesund museum to park carriages of different types. – Regarding the grave yard, it is to say that in the period after the last world war and into 1980's, it was not in use for burials. In these days the grave yard is in use as an urn place.
The Rønneberg family has a family plot there. In addition there is several graves around the grave yard.
