Øwre familien av Per Rønneberg Bremnes The Øwre family by Per Rønneberg Bremnes

The Øwre family by Per Rønneberg Bremnes

Genealogy is often a real trial of patience, but the trials are soon forgotten when you find what you are looking for. Especially when you find previously unknown relationships. A while back I was looking at Anna Margrethe Holmboe’s (1825-1907) ancestors and I experienced that fact for myself. Anna’s mother was Anna Johanne Øwre (1801-1887).

Another Øwre name came into my head. It was Dagny Johnsen Dedekam Øwre (1888-1972). Her father was Jørgen Anthon Johnsen (1857-1923).

The relationship between Anna Johanne Øwre and Jørgen Anthon Johnsen was not previously known to the Rønneberg family in Ålesund. The fact that their daughters – Anne Johanne and Dagny - both married a man called Rasmus Gerhard Rønneberg had not been known. Anna married Rasmus Gerhard Rønneberg (1822-1884) and Dagny married Rasmus Gerhard Rønneberg (1885-1913). I must mention that Dagny married 13 Mar 1913 at the time 1300.

After a much research, I found the relationship between the two women.

Their common first male ancestor was Mads Olsen (1663-1715). He was a district police superintendent in the Ytterøy municipality. He lived at the farm Øwre (Øvre) and was married to Margrethe Amundsdatter Øwre (?-?). She was the daughter of the previous district police superintendent Amund Andersen Øwre (?-?). Mads and his wife had three children, amongst them, a son, Amund Madsen (1699-1753).

Amund Madsen was also the district police superintendent and farmer. He married Ingeborg Bardosdatter (1715-1799). She was the daughter to Bardo Henriksen Vestreim. They called themselves Øwre after the farm. They had eight children. Two of them, Henrik Øwre (1726-1799) and Peder Leth Øwre (1747-1802), had descendants that married into the Ålesund branch of the Rønneberg family. Raphael Leth was present at Peder’s baptism. It’s more then likely that Peder got the middle name Leth from him.

Henrik and Peder both went to Molde. They were both officials in Molde and well known in the city.

Henrik married Elisabeth Blom (1740-1817). Their son, Andreas Blom Øwre (1761-1820), was also an official in Molde. He married Anna Helsing Paus (?-?) and they had a daughter Anna Johanne Øwre (1801-1887).

Peder married Mette Susanne Jalles (1759-1849). She was the daughter of Peder Adamsen Jalles (1720-1795) and Ulrikke Antoinette Eeg (1722-?). They were blessed with three children. One of them was Peder Jalles Øwre (1788-1851). He started the pharmacy Svaneapoteket in Ålesund and was also the mayor of the same town. Peder married Karen Spliid Møller (1800-1880) the daughter of Jens Worm Møller (1773-1813) and Louisa Augusta Baade (1788-1813). Peder and Karen’s daughter, Jensine Wilhelmine Øwre (1828-1908), married Christian Johnsen (1828-1893) and they had a boy named Jørgen Anthon Johnsen.

When Peder Leth Øwre (1826-1883) died without any children Jøren inherited his uncle’s estate. Jørgen then took his mother’s maiden name, and called himself Jørgen Anthon Johnsen Øwre. He married Anna Marie Dedekam (1860-1885) and Dagny Johnsen Dedekam Øwre was born.

The relationship between the two children is that Dagny Johnsen Dedekam Øwre is Anna Margrethe Holmboe’s 3rd cousin, twice removed. The relationship leads to a new relationship that was previously not known. An uncle is suddenly also a sixth cousin. But the new relationships are another story.
