Barbars J (Halvorsen) O'Brian Obituary

Barbara J. Halvorsen O'Brien Oct. 2, 1938 - July 26, 2012 Born in Rio de Janeiro, the elder of two daughters, to Lars and Lillian Halvorsen, Barbara passed away peacefully in Walnut Creek after complications from brain cancer. Beloved wife of the late William (Bill) O'Brien, Barbara leaves behind sons Michael and Gregory, daughters-in-law Susan and Deirdre, grandchildren Abigail and Daniel, and dear sister Sonja Vukasin (George). Barbara is also survived by her many nieces and nephews and their children. A graduate of Mt. Diablo High School and San Jose State University, Barbara was a school teacher and loved tutoring children in reading. She was an AOPi sorority sister and very active in the Sons of Norway and Daughters of Norway, serving as an officer and committee member in both organizations. In their retirement Barbara and Bill were avid travelers, making several trips to China as well as visits to Norway, Ireland and India.
