Larry Richard Lima, age 66, of Pascagoula, MS passed away Sunday, August 3, 2008, in Pascagoula.
Mr. Lima was born November 2, 1941, In Eau Claire Wisconsin. He was a proud and patriotic veteran of twenty-eight years service in the United States Navy, serving the bulk of his duty in the Submarine Service.
His many years of naval service took him to many duty stations around the world, serving on at least five different submarines. At one point in his career, he served on the "Burgara", SS331, under his father, who was the COB. Mr. Lima re-enlisted in the Navy on one occasion for the express purpose of serving on the famous battleship, the USS Missouri. His re-enlistment ceremony was held on the exact spot that marked the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II.
Mr. Lima was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore E. and Eleanor Larsen Lima; his in-laws, Olen and Ava Lee Key; and two brothers, David and Jeff Lima.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Rachel Annette Key Lima of Pascagoula; two brothers, Dennis and Kim Lima of Bruce, WI; a sister, Kay (Brad) DeCorte of Clearwater, FL; an aunt, Ilene (Tom) Robertson of Eau Claire, WI, his brother & sister in-law Robert (Claudia) Key, and a special friend and shipmate, Eugene (Betty) Brandt of Pascagoula. Also, very dear to Larry were his pets, his dog, Smoky, and his cats, Brandy, Missy, and Gracie. There are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that will miss Larry deeply.
Visitation will be Tuesday August 5, 2008, 6:00-8:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Escatawpa. Services for Mr. Lima will be Wednesday August 6, 2008 at Heritage Funeral Home beginning at 10:00am. Graveside services will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery with Military Honors.
